More young people in the UK are suffering from poor mental health than ever before, and schools are struggling to meet the needs of young people with mental health problems. The pandemic exacerbated this mental health crisis and left many young people isolated from their communities. But when it gets hard, local champions like Shelby are still there, fighting for their community. During the pandemic, Shelby founded her organisation Hey Sis to provide online activities to young people, and combat the effects of physical isolation. Shelby has drawn on her experience of anxiety and depression to provide mentoring, and has built a growing network to provide for, and empower, women and girls.
