NEW WAVE is a series of open skate nights designed for marginalised genders & the queer community, from beginners to advanced. They stand for empowering the underrepresented and overlooked in skateboarding and will always put this first. These events are not about the best tricks but about being able to be yourself and to have fun in the skatepark. Respect each other, and above all: enjoy skateboarding.
We have been fortunate enough to visit a couple of the NEW WAVE nights at the House Skatepark in Sheffield & their first-ever night at Projekts in Manchester to speak with Skate Coach & Project Coordinator Amber Edmondson about the importance of safe spaces for marginalised genders & the LGBTQIA+ community as well as how the skateboard media could help be more diverse & inclusive, plus much more.
Their next event is on the 3rd of July at Projekts in Manchester and is not to be missed! Please follow NEW WAVE UK for further information and more news on upcoming events - https://www.instagram.com/newwaveskat...
A huge thank you to Amber & the team for having us in their space and allowing us to showcase what an incredible work they’re doing.
